After airline deregulation went into effect in the 1970s, United airlines dropped service to Oregon's capitol city, Salem. A small regional airline came in to fill the void. Air Oregon served Salem for several years using small turboprop Swearingen Metroliners, which were quite popular with commuter airlines at that time. Most of the Air Oregon fleet were white with yellow, orange, and red stripes. The brown, white, and green colors on this particular airplane were introduced later in the airline's history, and as near as I can tell it was the only Metroliner in the fleet that had this color scheme, but it was the first one I saw, so I assumed they all looked like this. I made this image in February 1980 at McNary Field in Salem. The plane was just about to depart, one engine is running, while the left one will be started momentarily.
I flew on Air Oregon just once. Much to my disappointment my plane was an even smaller Piper Navajo.
