This is a popular viewpoint along the Cypress Grove trail at Point Lobos State Reserve near Carmel, California. The rugged beauty of the park is exemplified in this scene. In the foreground the broken tree and weathered rocks indicate a harsh environment. In the background Cypress Cove and the hill called Big Dome inspire fantasies of adventure in any viewer, as it did for Robert Louis Stevenson who used Point Lobos as his model for the setting of "Treasure Island."
