Artist's Description

NOTE: The watermark in the lower right corner will not appear on purchased products.

In Northern California, a few miles south of Dunsmuir along interstate 5, lies one of my favorite state parks, known as Castle Crags. My wife and I stopped in the park for a picnic lunch after visiting my family in Oregon. Inside the park a narrow winding road takes you to a parking lot. A short trail leads to a spectacular vista point where you can get a clear view of the crags, as well as a peek at Mt. Shasta which stands several miles to the North.

The crags overlook the upper reaches of the Sacramento River, which snakes its way through a lush gorge on its way towards Lake Shasta.

For this shot, made on May 15th, 1998, I used my trusty Tamron 80-200 zoom lens with a polarizer to darken the sky for dramatic effect. This panoramic image was digitally stitched from two overlapping negatives.

In 1984, Mr. Toy and his wife Heidi returned to the Monterey Peninsula where his heart belonged. In 1997, on a bit of...
